🍋 Brighten any day with fresh citrus

Published 3 months ago • 1 min read

Hey, there!

I'm looking out my office window into a gray, foggy neighborhood today, but dreaming of spring flowers and the summer sun. Fortunately, we can add a little sunshine to our lives with fresh citrus! I love citrus season and have my counter full of blood oranges, cara caras, lemons, and more.

My hope is that these citrus recipes help you feel a little extra joy and happiness regardless of any dreary skies or slushy snow melt you might be facing. Enjoy!

Lemon White Chocolate Scones

The tart flavor of lemon is a perfect match for creamy white chocolate. These scones disappear almost too quickly around here...

Homemade Extracts

I'm a big fan of making homemade extracts, and recently published tutorials for making your own citrus extracts. They're a great way to add a hit of citrus any time of the year. Here's my lemon extract recipe.

Brown Sugar Lemonade

The rich, caramel-like flavor of brown sugar makes an ordinary glass of lemonade so much more interesting! You can actually replace the brown sugar syrup with any of the syrups on the blog. Make lavender lemonade, blueberry lemonade, vanilla lemonade, and more.

Blood Orange Scones

These tender scones are made with real blood orange and dried cherries for two layers of flavor. Perfect for brunch or any special Sunday morning!

Lemon Lavender Muffins

The tricky thing about baking with lavender is getting just enough flavor without overdoing it. My secret is to let the lemon flavor shine first, then add the lavender as a garnish.

These muffins are so perfectly moist and taste wonderful with a tangy, floral glaze on top. One of my favorites!

Lemon Ricotta Pasta

This one-pot pasta recipe is so light and refreshing! It really tastes like summer in a bowl.

This is just the start! I have a bunch more blood orange recipes on the way soon, so keep an eye out. Is there something in particular you'd like to see? Just hit reply to let me know!

Hey, Reader, How do you feel about growing and using herbs? As a kid, I really didn't use many herbs. I knew the basics - basil, mint, and oregano - and we had quite a few in the spice cupboard. But, they were generally used to make sauce for lasagna or spaghetti, not for much else. Early last year, I imagined myself with a spice cupboard full of homegrown herbs, and something about that vision really struck me. So, I brought home a whole bunch of herb starts from the farmers market early in...

Hey, there! How do you feel about blue cheese? There's a good chance you have a little nose crinkle going on. I get it! Blue cheese is funky and tangy. It smells weird, and it's covered in mold. Are we really supposed to eat mold?! A long time ago, I lucked out on my dream job. I worked as a cheesemonger at a grocery store with a MASSIVE cheese selection (over 700 varieties). It was like a rapid-fire training in cheese, and I loved it! The thing that surprised me the most was just how much I...
